BLACKWOOD – The Camden County College baseball team is due to face Gloucester County at Gloucester on April 4.
As of now the team’s record is 7-8 as they hope to push toward a winning one. This upcoming game will require the team to put forth the upmost effort. Gloucester County is one of the best teams in the division and is always a good game to watch because of the talent matchups.
Anthony Kelly, a player for Camden County’s team, said, “They (Gloucester) are defending national champs.” Kelly added the team really has to get it together and play as the team they know they are. If they do not or if they are having an off day, Gloucester will take advantage of their errors and beat them like they did the last time they played. Kelly also said lately they are not “meshing as a team,” which can mean the difference between a win and a loss. If Camden County expects to win, they need to find a way to come together. Kelly says if they can pull it together, they can stand a chance and even pull off a win.
Another big variable in this game is the coaching. Ex-player and now assistant team manager Bill Parave said about the coaching, “The right things need to be called and the team has to respect what the coach is saying.” A missed steal or bunt sign may have a negative effect, causing a loss that could have been easily avoided.
With all of these things taken into consideration, the common consensus in defeating Gloucester would be to work as a team. It is not just up to the pitcher to play the entire defense just as it’s not the home run hitter’s job to control the offense. Being that Gloucester is a national champion, they will jump on any chance they have. But if Camden County College can pull off a win, a celebration would be in order. Not only would it boost the morale of the team but also their record.
