BLACKWOOD – A lecture titled “The Good, the Banned, and the Ugly: Hollywood’s Sordid Affair with Sex, Violence, and Censorship” will take place at 7 p.m. April 6 in Civic Hall at Camden County College.
Film critic and editor Peter Keough will lead the two-hour lecture, which is part of a six-lecture series titled “Sex and Society in America.”
In this lecture Keough will discuss the history of Hollywood’s approach to lure viewers with the taboo and forbidden, while a vast majority of society view it as unacceptable. The motives and implications of each side will be covered.
The purpose of these lectures is to stimulate abstract thinking toward common social problems. Some of the other topics discussed in other lectures are civil rights for gays and lesbians, and women’s rights to reproduction, as well as the effect of Alfred Kinsey’s reports and the emergence of modern sexual identities.
A large crowd and intense discussions are expected. The event is free; however, seats are limited so early registration is advised. To register, log on to http://www.camdencc.edu and click events.
