BLACKWOOD — A Camden County College student recently auditioned for the talent show “X-Factor,” which will soon premiere in the United States.

Erica Colon has auditioned for ‘American Idol’ and ‘X-Factor.’ By Jose Santiago, CCC Journalism Program

Erica Colon auditioned on April 14 for “X-Factor,” for which ex-“American Idol” judge Simon Cowell is a judge.

Colon is a music major at CCC who has been signing her whole life. Ever since she was 11 years old, she has been performing in talent shows for school and public park shows for the community. Singing and performing are her passion and something she wants to pursue a career in.

Before this audition, Colon auditioned for “American Idol” and made it to Hollywood week. She made it through three auditions in front of judges Jennifer Lopez, Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler. She was cut from the show on her fourth audition.

For “X-Factor,“ Colon arrived to the audition location, which was a stadium, around 6:45 a.m. She waited about eight hours to audition in front of the executive producers of the show.

She said, “I was nervous at first, but I felt confident because I already went through this during ‘American Idol,’ so I feel like I have some experience in competing.”

Her father, Eddie Colon, said he was proud of his daughter and confident in her ability to sing. “She’s going to make it big someday,” he said.

He’s not the only one who has faith in her. Her family and friends support her.

Colon couldn’t reveal whether she passed the audition or not, because of the contract of confidentiality she signed with the show. Viewers will just have to watch the show when it premieres to see how she did.
