BLACKWOOD – About 50 members of the Camden County College community participated in the second annual Dr. Guy Jones/Dr. James Harris Memorial Walk held by the Addiction Counseling Club on Saturday on the Blackwood campus.

The entrance fee to take the one-mile walk around the campus was $10. The money raised will go to scholarships of up to $500 each for students who belong to the Addiction Counseling Club, said Leroy Stanford, a professor who leads the club and directed the walk. In addition to raising money, the walk was intended to bring community members back together after many were scattered because of the pandemic.

Dagny Kite, a student, noted addictions tear lives apart but treatments can help people who suffer from addictions and can help their relatives and friends who suffer with them.

Stanford said he is grateful for the work of Jones and Harris, two pioneers in the fields of addiction counseling and counseling education who taught at the college. Stanford said Harris motivated him to combat his addictions and helped many others do the same and Jones motivated him and other students to get their educational degrees.
