Photo Essays – How They Came To Be

The photo essays you view on this site are created by students in the Influence of Mass Media class at Camden County College in Blackwood, New Jersey. Each semester they are asked to document “life as I know it”. Their essays are a meaningful glimpse into the world around them with pictures and accompanying stories.

The student produced photo essays come after considerable work on the topic of photojournalism. Each student used a critical analysis on a collection of photos by other photojournalists. They also learned methods to help them train their eye on things happening around them to serve as subject matter for the photo essay. Now with this photo essay they have the task to tell a story about their community through pictures. Their intent is to serve democracy by observing the world around them, asking questions, discussing issues, and where necessary, righting wrongs. Some of the work may be serious or humorous, introspective or shallow, even unconventional and ordinary. Regardless, all have this opportunity to share with you, the viewer, their story.

If you are a student in Influence of Mass Media instructions to post a photo essay to the CCC Times blog can be found at  http://libguides.camdencc.edu/content.php?pid=250050&sid=2086645  Just scroll down to the bottom of the page to view the instructions.
