BLACKWOOD – The Libraries @ Camden County College hosted representatives from The Philadelphia Inquirer on Tuesday, Nov. 29 and Wednesday, Nov. 30 and treated CCC students, faculty and staff to a free cup of coffee while experiencing the electronic version of the newspaper on an Android tablet.

Juelia Simon, 23, of Cape May Courthouse, promotional content coordinator at the Philadelphia Inquirer, and Caitlin Donahue, 23, of Bucks County, part-time promotions representative at the Inquirer, brought this event to CCC “to inform and expose students, faculty and staff to the Philadelphia Media Network’s tablet; a new, fun and technologically savvy way to view the news while enjoying a free cup of coffee.”

Those attending the presentation were able to experience the tablet hands-on and learn more about how to stay on top of current news and events, enhance social lives and stay on the cutting edge of information and technology.

“The tablet is WI-FI ready and runs like any other tablet product; it has access to the Internet, email, games and apps, but there are two major differences. The Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News Digital Edition subscriptions are built in and the cost is very low,” said Simon. Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint are also built in to the tablet for ease of use and writing papers on the go.

The perk of a new and different free app is also offered and available every day to subscribers at no additional charge.

CCC student Carol Mitchell, 60, of Lawnside, majoring in computer graphics and Web design, attended the event to gather information for a class assignment and learned information about how the tablet can benefit her in all of her studies.

“This was such a good presentation and the representatives are friendly and most importantly, knowledgeable. They answered all of my questions and supported the answers with facts. I am very interested in the product,” said Mitchell.

The digital version of The Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News is being offered to CCC students, faculty and staff during the holidays at a one-time payment of $89 and a monthly fee of $9.99 for a two-year subscription, a savings of more than 65 percent.

The tablets were not for sale at CCC. More information on The Philadelphia Inquirer tablet is available by visiting http://www.phillytablet.com or by calling (888) 615-4173.
