Kenya Dubar is embedding her artistic characteristics on the airwaves of Camden County College’s WDBK ~ 91.5 FM, at the Blackwood Campus.
Dubar is one of 25 dedicated student disc jockeys on the air Monday to Friday 10 a.m.~3 p.m. providing diverse musical selections featuring R&B, rock, hip-hop, heavy metal, and more. Each student is on air at least one hour each week to accommodate airtime schedules.
Within weeks of joining Dubar adjusted quickly to the functions of the station. Dubar attributed this to her passion for theatrical arts in addition to the wealth of knowledge she gleans from Jamie Myerson, station manager.
Originally from North Carolina, Dubar relocated to New Jersey in 1992, she is the personification of a driven student. Dubar is a proud mother excitedly awaiting the birth of her fourth child in July. She has earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Kean University and is working full time in the mental health profession.
In her second semester, Dubar is pursuing a Paralegal degree at CCC as a full time student, with visions of law school on the horizon. Dubar is hopeful that one day the radio station will have the technology that will allow the listeners to call in.
Dubar agrees the radio exposure can open doors to massive opportunities as she strives to reach a broader audience highlighting her many artistic talents. Performing Spoken Word, Open Mic at Night Café and Island Breeze in Philadelphia. She is a vocalist and published writer for In the Spotlight, an online magazine. Dubar said, “It is all part of creating the masterpiece.”
