The women are practicing hard and gearing up for the season opener. They have big expectations for themselves this year and they hope to accomplish all the goals they set for themselves individually and for the team. The team has been involved with the community and has been trying to make strides to consider themselves ready for the games they will play this season. They expect to make a playoff run because of the trust and confidence each player has in one another.

The Papiano Gym will entertain fans during games with a bedazzled free throw contest during halftime, when they will have a raffle and hold a drawing for a contestant to come up and try to make free throws. There will also be T-shirt giveaways and Tony Luke contests. This halftime entertainment will be for fans and students to watch with the cheerleading team presenting their routines during halftime also. Admission to the games is free.

Jadarrah Richardson is the center for the Lady Cougars.

“I’m excited and nervous at the same time but knowing my teammates it should be an easy win,” she said. “We are working really hard.”

The players’ trust in one another could be a deciding factor in the game.

“We are working on getting mentally and physically prepared,” Richardson said. “We are working on our defense and offense.”

The Lady Cougars are inspired by the words of their coach, Molly Ana Light: “Always work harder to get to the next level.”
