The Cougars had a rough start in the first half, scoring only 12 points and ending the half 37 points behind Middlesex.

“Middlesex County College is a division team that plays fast and physical,” Coach Chip Reitano stated.

Although the Cougars suffered another loss, some players took the defeat as a valuable lesson.

Currently injured and unable to assist her teammates, starting center Natalie Acciani believes her team needs to improve their efforts. “Our mentality during practice needs to switch and we have to stay focused,” she said.

Reitano, in his second year as coach, noted, “My goal is to build them into a competitive team and have them built and fully functional as a whole.”

Athletics department equipment manager Andrew Wallis has noticed the team has more depth than last year. “They’ve had several good practices, they just weren’t awake today,” he said. “Last year they had to forfeit a couple games because several players didn’t have a consistent access in transportation to get to practice.”

So far this season the Lady Cougars have two wins and five losses. They are led by Acciani, top scorer Kylea Patterson and court leader Mariah Jones.

“Jones is like having another coach on the floor,” Reitano said.
