BLACKWOOD – A General Education Assessment presentation took place Dec. 3 and was facilitated by Dr. Gail Stewart.
The presentation focused on community college practices and ideas for reaching the standards expected by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. It also focused on ways to engage students and faculty in the ideals behind the process and the value it can add to a community college education.
Stewart’s main goal for the presentation was to inform faculty about some models of general education and how some institutions are assessing the General Education Models they have chosen. She also wanted to point out to the faculty that General Education Assessment is going to begin at the college and the college can either participate or not and then live with the consequences of that decision.
The presentation gave insight on the many options the college has. It also gave faculty members an opportunity to voice their opinion on the topic.
The presentations occur monthly and are organized by the Office of Academic Affairs as professional development for faculty.
