In the second inning of the first game with the bases loaded and the score at 2-0, Cougars pitcher Alexis Doran was hit in the knee by a line drive from a Roadrunners batter. Doran fell but got back up, determined to finish the game.

In the third inning of the second game, Cougars batter Erin McCanney hit a pop up the Roadrunners missed catching. Brielle Colbert ran from third base to home while McCanney reached second base, making the score 16-1. McCanney scored later in the inning to make the score 16-2.

Christina Olsen hit a double and stole third base in the fourth inning of the second game.

Head Coach Chip Reitano said every day is a new day and the team needs to remain positive. “This is our first year as a team in a long time. All of our players are freshmen. They are maturing as players from day to day. Talent alone isn’t going to win. We need teamwork. We’re a work in progress.”

Cougars pitcher Lindsey Farmer said a good outlook is a necessity whether the team loses or wins the game. “Some things you can’t control. You can’t control the other teams’ talent, but you can control a positive attitude.”

Alexis Doran stated, “We came out flat today. We actually get more down when we don’t have consistent games. As more games come up, we get more pumped up.”

Reitano added everyone is trying to look forward from the losses. “Tomorrow, we’re putting today behind us. We’re trying to improve on communication and being consistent on the plate. We didn’t talk well as a team today. This is our focus.”

However, the team has limited time to practice before its next games. Reitano said, “We try to prepare and practice before each game. But tomorrow we are leaving for Bergen County at 12 and traveling to Ocean County on Thursday. This us our first experience playing three days in a row. We have to grow from this.”
