The Camden County College Foundation’s holiday plant sale raised about $1,000 for scholarships and academic enhancements, the foundation’s development associate said Dec. 9.
The plant sale was scheduled to run from Dec. 6 to 8 but ended on Dec. 7 when all the plants were sold, said development associate Melissa Daly.
“We started off with around 130 plants and we sold out in almost a day,” said Daly.
The plant sale was held in the atrium of the Connector Building on the Blackwood campus among other holiday events, including arts and crafts and pastry sales. The plant sale included Christmas cacti, poinsettias and other holiday plants, ranging in price from $10 to $20 each.
“The Christmas cacti and the 4.5-inch pots go fast,” said Myra Tryon, the foundation´s secretary and a seller at the event. “They are very beautiful plants and it’s great that they will last up until March-April.”
“A plant sale at school is a good idea,” said student Michelle Willoby. “Glad I could grab a beautiful plant here, save me the trip to the store.”
The plant sale is among the activities the foundation holds to raise funds.
“We do a lot of activities and rely on donations of faculty, staff, alumni and students,” said Daly. Other recent fundraisers included a designer handbag sale and an evening with radio personality Jerry Blavat.
