BLACKWOOD – Prospective transfer students got a chance to meet with representatives of 44 colleges and universities at Camden County College’s transfer fair on April 18. The college holds the fair each year to help students discover their options for transferring and learn about the process that goes along with it.

“I feel like this is a really good turnout, especially considering the rescheduling of it due to the inclement weather,” said Kaitlynn Shawaryn, transfer services adviser. Shawaryn was unable to give an estimate of how many students attended the fair but she said attendance picked up during class change times.
Shawaryn said each year she uses social media and student email to promote the fair and sometimes meets with students before the fair to discuss what institutions’ tables they should look at and what questions they should ask. She also emails a list of institutions that will attend and asks students to respond to say if they will attend or not.
This year, she pushed the starting time forward an hour to 10 a.m. to enable advisers to arrive on time and she set up the institutions’ tables in alphabetical order to make it easier for students to find the ones they were interested in.
Representatives of institutions such as Drexel University, La Salle University and Temple University set up tables at the fair. The tables held handouts about the institutions and papers on financial aid, majors and the transfer process for that institution.
Jordan Malmstrom, a representative of Temple University, said he offers to attend the fair every year.
“I love coming here every year. I know transferring can be stressful and confusing. I come here to eliminate that as much as I can and answer any questions students have,” Malmstrom said.
Camden County College nursing major Eisha Granger was among the students who attended the fair. “I do find the fair really helpful. This is my first time attending it but I will definitely come back next time”, she said.
Representatives of some institutions offered students the opportunity to sign up for instant decision days and campus tours. On instant decision days, students tour a campus, apply for admission and receive their acceptance or rejection on the spot.
