A Camden County College graduate won second place for web projects for two-year colleges in the 2023-24 New Jersey College Newspaper Contest sponsored by the New Jersey Press Foundation.
Lauren Meyer won for her project headlined “Chase Greer: A story of success.” She produced the project for a journalism class assignment and for publication on CCC Times, the online source for news produced by students for students at Camden County College.
The project combined text, photos and graphics to tell the story, which profiles Greer, a Camden County College student, scholarship recipient and vocalist, drummer, occasional guitarist, writer and editor for a band called Strange Velvet.
Meyer is now a communications major at Drexel University
The New Jersey Press Foundation announced the award this week.
Meyer is thrilled to be receiving this honor from the New Jersey Press Foundation. This is the first time her work is being recognized in the journalism field and her gratitude did not go unnoticed. Meyer is an ambitious young woman as well as a dedicated scholar. This is only the beginning of her journey in the realm of communications.
Meyer had nothing but kind words to say about Greer, the subject of her article. “Chase is really talented. I’m happy I was able to promote his music on the website,” she said. Meyer would describe Greer as “hardworking” and “multitalented.” She said her experience reporting and writing the project was “really nice and conversational.”
In retrospect, Meyer attributed her success to her “amazing professor’s instruction” and Greer’s “inspirational story.” She is appreciative of the opportunity Robert Tulini, her former professor, has given her. She had a wonderful experience in his news writing class when she was a student at Camden County College.
When asked if winning this award motivates her in her desired career field, Meyer answered, “Yes. It does.” She feels deeply encouraged to continue writing and fueling her passion for storytelling. Looking ahead, Meyer envisions herself delving deeper in the world of communications. She hopes to continue shedding light on compelling stories and making a positive impact on the world through her work. This award is a testament to her talent and worldview.
