Parent Life
Nubiah, 23, is from Philadelphia and lives in South Jersey. On a typical day, Nubiah wakes up around 4 a.m.
She recently said, “Every day I go to the gym at 5 a.m. I can’t miss a day.”
By 8 a.m., she drops her daughter off at a Catholic school in Merchantville. At 11:30 a.m. Nubiah is finished with her classes. She picks her daughter up at noon.
Nubiah stated, “Usually, we go on a 30-40 minute walk. She (Symphony) usually falls asleep after the walk. Afterwards, she goes to gymnastics or soccer. Then she takes a shower, has dinner and is asleep by 8:30 p.m. the latest.”
Nubiah enjoys cooking meals, such as lasagna, at-home Chipotle bowls and baked macaroni and cheese, for her family. Symphony’s favorite foods are salmon, steak and eggs.
Outside of school and her programs, Symphony enjoys going to the park to ride her bike or scooter. She is learning to jump rope. Nubiah’s mother or one of her sisters watches her daughter when she is not available.
Mecca Alexander, Nubiah’s older sister, recently said, “I feel like she’s a great parent. Times get tough and kids stress you out but she is there through it all, the sickness, the hard times, etc.”
School
Nubiah has been a nursing major for a bit more than one year. Previously, she studied at Lincoln Tech. Now, she is at Camden County College’s Camden campus.
She stated, “It’s something I just like to do. I’ve always seen myself in the medical field taking care of people.”
She takes four classes and is at school four days a week from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Sometimes, she arrives early to study.
She said, “It’s close and convenient. It’s an eight-minute drive. It gives me enough time to drop her (Symphony) off and pick her up.”
She described her classes as small and more intimate. She said, “It’s easy and there’s a lot of one-on-one time.”
She explained that Lincoln Tech only offers a degree to be a licensed practical nurse (LPN). She said, “I want to do nursing and not just LPN. I see myself working in a NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) with babies or as a pediatric nurse.” She has a long-term career goal of becoming a registered nurse (RN).
Micro-Influencer
Since January, Nubiah has been earning money as a micro-influencer. She posts videos and pictures of herself, sharing her life, on social media. She also seasonally posts her music.
She said, “Before, I worked at a rehabilitation center called Cambridge located in Moorestown. I was there for almost three years. I loved it because I’m in school for nursing. It’s like a natural thing.”
She explained she left once she began making money from posting on Instagram and TikTok to her 10,000 followers. She stated, “I post every day. I try not to miss a day. If I do, I post a video.”
