BLACKWOOD – Camden County College hosted its annual Spring Career Fair on April 22 on the Blackwood campus to help students find new jobs and opportunities.
Each spring semester, company representatives visit the college to recruit students. The Camden County College Career Planning and Advancement Center, which helps students obtain jobs when they graduate, organized the event. Representatives of more than 50 companies from the South Jersey and Philadelphia region were listed to attend the fair.
This career fair took place in the Presidential Courtyard of the Blackwood Campus from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tables were set up outside for the companies and a cornhole game was set up to play. A DJ came out to play music for the event.
Andrew Lesser, a representative of New York Life Group, was excited to attend the fair to help bring opportunities to students interested in a career in finance. Lesser offered positions from financial agents to a fast track to a management program. In an interview, “New York Life is always looking for students interested in finance and to pursue a new career,” Lesser stated.
Renewal by Anderson, a window and door company, was looking for future representatives to help sell their products to consumers and offer in-home consultations. The company would pay hourly wages and commissions and would require the representatives to work only on weekends. Tyler Morgan represented the company at the fair.
“We are looking for students who want a job to make a lot of money,” Morgan said. He noted the average market representative makes about $35 per hour, which can total an average of $400 to $700 a week.
Both representatives said it was their first time at the Camden County College Career Fair, although it was neither company’s first time at the fair. They noted they were grateful to have been able to attend to help students find new opportunities and start their careers.
Many students attended the event to explore what was being offered there. One student, Brennan Camb, was looking for a job that paid more than his current one. He also wanted something that piqued his interest.
“I found a job that is looking for school aides, which helps me give back to other students, since I am a disabled student myself,” Camb said.
