BLACKWOOD – Camden County College held its annual Spring Fling on the Blackwood campus from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 24. The event was meant to bring students together and allow them to relax after a long semester. The event was presented by the Office of Student Life and Activities and held in the Founders Courtyard beside the college bookstore.

The college served hamburgers, hot dogs, pasta salad, cookies, popcorn and water. The food was free for anyone in attendance. They also had multiple picnic-style tables to sit and enjoy the warm weather and refreshments.

Anthony John, 20, a student from Yale School, said about the food, “The burger was pretty good but was a little cold.”

The activities at the event consisted of an inflatable axe thrower, a sports game blow-up, giant cup pong, cornhole, spin art, and spike ball. Students, staff members and guests participated in the activities.

Tammy Timbers, student life and engagement coordinator, said they were focused on students having a good time.

“I think it’s going great. Students are getting out of the building. As long as students are enjoying their time here at Camden County, that’s what I do my job for,” Timbers said.

Other than the activities and food, there were information tables consisting of programs, clubs and local businesses with trivia, snacks and free accessories.

One of the tables was for dental hygiene, which was being run by a group of students in the dental hygienist program. Emily Macgibeny, 23, said about her experience at the Spring Fling, “I’m having a great time. This is a great way to participate. It’s a good way to be a part of the student body.”

The music for the spring fling was played by Gia Savidge, 32, who also goes by DJ Gia, from Go Entertainment based in Berlin, New Jersey. Savidge played a mix of 2010s and current hip-hop and pop music.

Jenell Carrero, 29, a student majoring in business management, stated, “I love the games and the tables were really cool today. I got some nice stuff. The music is really good, I know every song. That means no skips.”

Carrero was playing giant cup pong with Kevin Johnson, 32, an employee at CCC working for the Gateway to College program. Johnson was enjoying himself at the event and stated, “I love that it’s giving an opportunity to show community and show there’s a second home here for our students.”
