During a recent afternoon on the Blackwood campus, freshman psychology student Priscilla Lucia expressed a mix of disappointment and optimism regarding the shifting academic offerings at Camden County College. “It’s definitely disappointing when you hear your program is closed at an affordable school. Luckily they still have many to choose from and I had a backup choice,” Lucia said.

Angelo Boniello, the Director of Academic Advisement at Camden County College, offered a more in-depth perspective on student involvement with the curriculum from his office in Taft Hall. “We have had some students seeking degrees in discontinued majors like Occupational Therapy and Health Information Technology. Even with these programs not being available, when we speak with our students about where they want their future to lead, the answers given to me may not even fit into the major they are seeking. Therefore, we are able to lead them in a better direction with the vast majority of majors to pick from.”

While any potential academic restructuring triggers immediate concerns regarding student placement and degree completion, one-on-one academic advising ensures that every student receives a customized roadmap to graduation without any timeline disruptions. Ultimately, this shift focuses on strengthening the individual educational experience, leaving every student well-supported and equipped to thrive in a more stable learning environment.
