BLACKWOOD – Camden County College hosted its first ever Resource & Job Fair for the LGBTQIA community on April 10. The newly formed CCC Pride 365 club and the college’s Career Services Office organized the event.

The fair provided CCC students access to information on employers as well as local health and support resources available to the LGBTQIA community. Eighteen businesses and two social service organizations participated.

The event took place in the college’s Connector Building Atrium. The atrium was filled with tables from representatives of organizations who came to meet members of CCC’s LGBTQIA community.

Dr. Kelly Jackson of the Department of Mathematics expressed her enthusiasm for the event’s success with a post on LinkedIn, writing, “The newly formed student club has hit the ground running.”

Social organizations supporting the LGBTQIA cause made their presence available at the fair as resources to students. The Camden Area Health Education Center provided a range of information to students on their services related to safe sex practices, HIV screening and area support groups. At the CCC Pride 365 club table, students belonging to the club provided information about the school’s safe space program, LGBTQIA-designated restrooms, LGBTQIA scholarships and the support function of their club.

Local employers including Thompson Creek Window Company, Wawa, Funplex, ShopRite and Diggerland provided opportunities for students to apply for full-time and part-time jobs at their tables by scanning QR codes with links to online applications.

“The message is simple: We are here to let CCC students know we are LGBTQIA friendly,” said Antonio Rodriguez of ShopRite.
