The Marlin Art Gallery plans all exhibits at least one year in advance, so the gallery can present a different exhibit every month in an accessible venue.

Hannum, 38, will exhibit her art collection, “Biophilia,” for the first time in the Marlin Art Gallery.

“Biolphilia comes from the Greek. It basically means a love of biology,” she said Oct. 28. “It mostly encompasses the description for the type of work I work on.”

Hannum said she will present about 15 pieces, but a specific number has not yet been decided upon. She hopes to get the opinion of fellow artists, who will help decide what pieces will be presented in the show.

“I have been working on my current series since 2011, but this artwork will be from 2012 until now. Most of the pieces will come from the last couple years,” she explained.

Hannum works with various media but said the artwork presented in this exhibit will be “paintings, drawings and some mixed media on paper, mostly in two-dimensional.”

“I would like the perspective of a large room to give me the perspective of my art work,” she stated. “It’s a totally different way of looking at it in a professional setting rather than in my studio or a smaller room. I’m hoping to get interesting feedback and their interpretations.”

Kassandra Huerta, the Marlin Art Gallery director, said the gallery expects to attract 50 to 75 guests for the opening of the exhibition. She believes the show will attract “friends, family and art lovers.”

“Jenna Hannum is a well-respected and active artist in Philadelphia. She has a solid following and I know that this show will be well attended,” Huerta said.

Huerta estimated the event will take about a week to set up but notes it will depend on the artist.

The exhibition will be free and refreshments will be served at the opening of it, Huerta said.
