BLACKWOOD – Cooper University Health Care has opened a medical practice on the Camden County College Blackwood campus. The new practice is led by Dr. Allen Clowers and is located in Polk Hall.
Clowers, who finished his medical residency in 2000, was born in Camden and grew up in Glassboro. Clowers has been with Cooper since October 2015 working at various locations, as well as teaching and pre-accepting patients in preparation for the opening of the Cooper practice. The practice officially opened Jan. 25, 2016.
The practice offers many services to its patients, such as “traditional primary care, physical examinations, check-ups and management of chronic conditions. Vaccines will be available as well as seasonal vaccines such as the flu,” stated Clowers.
“We have a pretty wide variety of insurance acceptance,” he added.
The practice is “available to see everyone and anyone,” said Clowers. That includes students, faculty and nearby residents.
“As the weeks go by, I have been pleased with the steadiness of growth,” said Clowers about the increase in the number of patients in the weeks since the grand opening.
Clowers is a medical director and certified doctor of osteopathic medicine, as well as an instructor. The National Committee for Quality Assurance has recognized him for his work with the treatment and management of diabetes. He also achieved Patient Centered Medical Home Level 3 in 2015 and won the 2015 Patients Choice Award and 2014 Compassionate Physicians Award from the Vitals Awards.
In addition to the medical portion open to see patients, the practice has two other parts. An academic piece will allow Camden County College students to complete their clinical hours at the practice. A community education objective will include health fairs on topics such as dental care and sexually transmitted infections prevention at the practice.
The practice will hold an open house in April.
