The workshop will be presented by Brooke Spagnolia of the CCC recruitment department. She will take students through a variety of useful study strategies like note cards, time management and study groups. At the workshop, interested students will be supplied with printouts to assist them in their classes.

The study skills workshop is part of the tutoring center’s new services for student success. The increase in student services is due to CCC’s strategic plan to provide added assistance to students in the pursuit of degrees. The plan is focused on a goal-oriented initiative to improve services by ensuring teaching quality and enhancing general education. In addition to study skills, there are also workshops in test anxiety, writing tips and strategies, and note taking.

Taylor Hastings, a second-year CCC student, attended the workshop in the fall. “It made me realize some of my previous study habits weren’t helpful,” she said. “I would cram for an exam the night before and then, the next day, be surprised when I didn’t retain what I read.”

The event has sparked interest from potential attendees as a resource for students just beginning their college education. “I definitely could use some tips,” said college freshman Shelley Kessler. “Test taking in college is different than in high school so I can see how a little guidance would be good.”

The study skills workshop will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. April 6 in the presentation room in Taft Hall. Information on future workshops can be found on the tutoring center’s page on the college website, http://www.camdencc.edu/tutoring/index.cfm.
