Camden County College is holding a coat drive for families in need.

From Nov. 7 to Dec. 9, the college is collecting lightly worn coats as well as personal care items such as shaving blades, toothbrushes, toothpaste and deodorant. Items can be dropped off on the second floor of the Otto R. Mauke Community Center on the Blackwood campus, College Hall lobby on the Camden campus and William G. Rohrer Center Lobby on the Cherry Hill campus. The items will be given to the Volunteers of America, a community-based foundation serving the Delaware Valley.
“We try to do something as a community partnership. We feel that the college should be part of the community and we always try to pick a nonprofit to try to support,” said Jacqueline Tenuto, assistant dean for student development and support.
Volunteers of America was founded on March 8, 1896 in Philadelphia. In 1985, the organization became incorporated as Volunteers of America Delaware Valley Inc. Today, the organization has approximately 406 employees and 759 volunteers. Together, they have completed 8,595 hours of volunteer work with a value of $164,550, according to their website.
Volunteers of America also operates programs to alleviate homelessness, addiction counseling and mental health initiatives.
This is the 12th consecutive year the college has conducted the coat drive.
