SICKLERVILLE – The Technical Institute of Camden County is having a cosmetology clinic through May 24. Cosmetology students perform hair services, facial services, nail services and waxing treatments for members of the public at inexpensive prices in building six.
Participation in the two-year-long clinic is a part of the students’ curriculum. Longtime teacher Paulette Curcio explains, “The students have to have 600 hours a year for this two-year program. They are examined by the state board for a professional license.”
Color and cut savvy student Michael Feiser says, “It’s four days a week for 3.5 hours.”
The number of clients recently in the room indicated the clinic has been a success so far.
“I would probably say color and cuts are the most popular services that get performed here,” says Curcio. It comes off as a good deal with treatments of all kinds ranging from $3 to $35, which goes back to the cosmetology program.
Not only are the prices good, but the students are as well, notes Feiser, who says one of the best parts of the program is the students because they all work together and encourage one another.
And, he says, to top it all off, Curcio, who has been teaching since 1999 and formerly worked in Burlington County, has been a big help in the students’ progress. “She really helps us out,” says Feiser. He says the lively teacher gives the constructive criticism everyone needs, which has led to outstanding results.
The Technical Institute of Camden County’s Cosmetology Clinic is taking place from 3 to 6 p.m. every Thursday until May 24 at 343 Berlin Cross Keys Road, Sicklerville. The clinic is in building six, but clients must get a visitor’s pass in building one. No appointment is needed and walk-ins are welcome on a first come first serve basis, cash or checks only.
