The Student Government Association (SGA) at Camden County College (CCC) is not coming to an end. It is, however, moving in another direction.
An election to elect officers is usually held, but for the second time, Jackie Tenuto assistant dean for student development and support, is running a committee.
Tenuto said she tried this approach her first year taking over SGA, but she didn’t like the results, so she went with the election approach.
This year, she believes having a committee will give students more opportunities to have a voice.
“I rather have more than less instead of running an election and illuminating students, I want to keep as many students involved as I can,” Tenuto said “By having this committee, we can always have student input. More students involved is my bottom line.”
Assistant Dean for Student Development and Support Jackie Tenuto works hard in the Office of Student Life and Activities. Tenuto is trying to get Student Life and Activities organized for the 2015-2016 year.
Six students from the Blackwood campus and one from the Camden campus are involved.
Tenuto is changing the guidelines by allowing freshmen students to join and is allowing students to join anytime. There will be no deadline.
By being rotated, the students will serve in different roles throughout the year.
“Everyone’s a leader in their own way,” she said. All of the students will attend important meetings such as the President Cabinets she said.
Cindy Mc Coy, a senior from Hi-Nella, studies at the Blackwood campus and is majoring in liberal arts. Mc Coy’s ultimate goal is to make a difference at CCC.
Mc Coy likes the committee strategy, “It brings balance and a chance geared towards positive choices being made by the SGA committee,” she said.
The SGA hosts events, but the idea of the committee is to get events that the students want. Mc Coy said she believes the students want more college campus gatherings.
Arthur Cheney from Haddonfield, a business administration, mathematics, and finance major, said he agreed with Tenuto’s strategy.
“I feel as though Jackie Tenuto has done an exceptional job organizing it in such a way that will most benefit the student populous,” he said “Getting the students involved and making sure their needs are met, as well making sure they are informed.”
The committee will work together to plan events to give what CCC students want on campus, said Tenuto and students.
